EMF MRI

Earth Magnetic Field MRI

The student will adapt quantum control algorithms to calculate RF pulse sequences for nuclear magnetic resonance and magnetic resonance imaging/spectroscopy experiments on an earth magnetic field MRI system (EMF-MRI). This will in particular try to utilise spin-spin couplings which are clearer to image in lower fields than in high-field MRI. The project is part of our work on using quantum control in diagnosis, run jointly with Swansea University and will form part of the work to demonstrate that quantum control can find enhanced pulse sequences for magnetic resonance. Besides exploring the options for imaging enhancement using control and optimisations, results will in particular be used to demonstrate experimentally a model parameter identification and model distinction approach, which is crucial for model-based control. This is very likely to lead to a publication of which the student will be an author.
